Lightning kills more trees than anyone who was thinking, a new research suggests
We all saw a lightning lightning crashes a powerful tree, and their branches came up in flames. But how often does this actually happen? The investigators did not know how lightning had a lightning impact on the forests – so far.
The Technical University of Munich (Tum) developed a computer model to give what they say is that it is the first line measurement at the wide. According to their learning, lightning touches forests above reason. Specifically, they suggested that about 320 million trees die each year from a diminish, not wearing trees.

Biomass decay caused by the killed trees is estimated between 770 million tons of 1.09 billion in carbon dioxide per year. According to the investigators, this is surprisingly high. To compare, living plants are burned in wild hours release 1,26 billion tons of CO2 every year. Both statistics, however, are reduced by the total CO2 releases COSions (including the integration of dead and soils), 5.85 billion tons per year.
“Most climate models work with a lightning frequency increase in the next decades, so it is appropriate to pay attention to this very negative interruption,” Krave said. “Currently, a lightning deaths is high in tropical areas. However, the models suggest that the lightning frequency will increase the central locations and high deck, which means that the disappearing death may be very offensive.”
The investigators say that ecosystem models need the lightning death to predict the power of the plant. It is interesting though that not all trees die after lightning – in fact, some kindsa love.
